Earlier today the Japanese award winners for March were named.
The MVP for the month was the newly Japanese and OPBF Middleweight champion Hikaru Nishida (15-7-1, 7) [西田光] who scored a career defining victory on March 11th, when he stopped Akio Shibata in 3 rounds. The win saw Nishida score a 5th straight win, claim his first titles and avenge the only defeat he's suffered in more than 3 years.
The winner of the "Fighting Spirit" award was also a new champion, as the newly crowned Japanese Bantamweight champion Kentaro Masuda (24-7, 13) [益田健太郎], who reclaimed the title with a stoppage win over Hiroshi Tanaka, in what was a fight for the vacant title.
The State of the Art award was won by the very deserving Reiya Abe (11-2, 5) [阿部麗也], who scored a very shocking win over the much touted Hikaru Marugame on March 17th. The bout was one of the biggest upsets in a Japanese ring this year and really saw Abe impress from the start to the end.
The fighters will be given their awards on April 15th at the Korakuen Hall.
For those who haven't seen the bout, we've included the Nishida Vs Shibata bout below.
