It was later discovered that Rivera was actually Angelito Merin who was serving a medial suspension in the Philippines following a 9th round TKO loss to Danilo Gabisay last December. At that time it seemed Merin had been caught flaunting the rukles and would subsequently have a watchful eye put over him, for his own health as much as anything. As well as the watchful eye put on Merin it was thought that a review would be made into illegal fights involving Filipino fighters.
Since then a Korean source has informed us that Merin may have continued fighting under a third name, "Rivera AK Gym".
"Rivera AK Gym" first appeared on March 4th when he scored a 4th round TKO against Kan Wor Surapin at the AK Sports Center in Chonburi. Just 10 days later we saw "Rivera AK Gym" fight against Korean Jaesung Lee.
In that bout "Rivera AK Gym", who was apparently 1-0 (1), managed to give Lee a lot of problems and in fact dropped in the opening seconds, problems that suggested he was more experienced than his 1-0 (1) record.
Today our Korean sourced have informed us there may have been a reason as to why "Rivera AK Gym" seemed to be more experienced than his record suggests. Our sources has informed it is could well be a third name used by Merin If this is true it would be, at very least, the 18th bout fought by the 24 year old who's overall record should read 8-7-3 (2). Worryingly if it was Mr Merin in the ring with Lee then it was Merin's 6th bout in less than a year, his 3rd since he was beat by Gabisay and his third in the space of around 7 weeks.
We have informed Mr Almario of this news and await feedback regarding the story.
