Way bac in August we reported that that the WBA had ordered their Flyweight champion Kazuto Ioka (22-1, 13) [井岡一翔] to defend his title against Ukraine based Azerbaijani born fighter Artem Dalakian (15-0, 11). It seemed an easy and straight forward bout to make and one that looked like it really could have taken place at any point. Sadly that news was followed by reports that Kazuo Ioka and his father/manager had had a huge falling out, which had seen rumours emerge of Ioka being on the verge of retirement, walking away from the sport rather than try and work with his father, who had been critical of Ioka's marriage to to Japanese pop singer Nana Tanimura.
The news regarding Ioka then went very quiet with almost no news of the 3 weight champion. That was until last week, when Union Boxing Promotion revealed, on their Russian language site, that Dalakian would be fighting Ioka in Osaka on New Year's Eve.
The full details of the show are unknown, though the bout is expected to be aired on TBS, as part of Kyoguken, and will likely be one of a number of title bouts on the card. Rumours from Japan suggest that Ryosuke Iwasa (24-2, 16) [岩佐 亮佑] will defend the IBF Super Bantamweight title on the same show, and that there may be one other world title bout on the card.
