We had anticipated that we'd have seen the official announcement of the Ioka Vs Reveco bout this week, after the fighters had returned form a training camp they took part in in Hawaii. Today however it appears there is a hold up in the announcement due to other bouts on the card.
From what we've been told Ioka Gym are trying to secure a second world title bout for the card with either Sho Ishida (18-0, 10) or Ryo Miyazaki (22-1-3, 13) expected to be involved in that bout.
For Miyazaki, a former WBA Minimumweight title bout, this would be a return to world level for the first time since he abandoned the 105lb division in later 2013. From what we under-stand Miyazaki's target would likely be WBA Light Flyweight champion Ryoichi Taguchi (21-2-1, 8). Sadly we suspect Taguchi will be taking a different however a bout with WBC champion Pedro Guevara (24-1-1, 16) would make for a brilliant match up stylistically if the Osaka based gym can lure Guevara over for a second successive bout in Japan.
As for Ishida it's hard to see which champion he would be targeting. The best guess would be WBA Super Flyweight champion Kohei Kono (30-8-1, 13) though even that seems unlikely given that Kono is thought to be going in a different direction.
At the moment there is a lot of questions about this card though it does seem that the Ioka gym chairman is determined to do what he can to secure a second world title fight for this card. If one can't be made we assume the Ioka Vs Reveco bout will go ahead with Ishida defending his Japanese Super Flyweight title on the undercard and Miyazaki facing a notable opponent, though the Ioka gym would be disappoint if that's all that comes from the show.
