Next week fans in Japan will see Thailand's Inthanon Sithchamuang (28-7-1, 15) [อินทนนท์ ศิษย์ชะมวง] challenge WBA Super Flyweight champion Kohei Kono (31-8-1, 13) [河野 公平].
Today, ahead of that bout, Inthanon took part in a public training session at the Watanabe gym in Tokyo.
The Thai sounded spoke of his preparation back in Thailand where he has done around 190 rounds of sparring. Despite that preparation the Thai sounded awfully modest and it almost seemed as if just getting a fight at this level was his dream. He mentioned that had be striving to become a world champion, and his team suggested that due to his youth there is a chance that he could score an upset, though it seemed that both comments were made more in the hope of winning rather than the expectancy of winning.
Interestingly Inthanon was just 2.86lbs off the weight limit and this was the second time he had been in Japan, having previously been a sparring partner for Kazuto Ioka. He looked relaxed and sharp on the heavy bag but did seem to be someone who knew he was going to have to put on the performance of his life to win.
