Indonesian boxing has been in a bit of a rut since former world champion Chris John retired from the sport. Thankfully however TVRI have began to invest in the sport and have been showing regular cards over the last few months. We won't pretend those televised cards will have reinvigorated Indonesian boxing but they have proven that there's some life left there.
Although the sport has been kept alive in the country it has, for the most part, been at a very low level. Thankfully however that is set to change on April 26th as the country hosts it's first genuinely notable card in well over a year.
According to Indonesian website http://pontianak.tribunnews.com it seems that the card could be a very interesting one.
The main event is set to see the exciting Daud Cino Yordan (33-3, 24) battle against Australian Josh King (18-3, 8) in a bout for the WBO Asian Pacific Lightweight title. The winner of this is hoping to be fast tracked to a WBO world title fight later in the year and in fact the winner would be aiming to earn a top 5 ranking for winning the bout.
It's hoped that the undercard for such a big bout would feature some of Indonesia's most exciting young prospects. This means we could see someone like Tibo Monabesa (7-0, 3), Defry Palulu (11-1, 10) or Iwan Zoda (4-1, 3), if not all 3, and the hope is that one of those could be up against a notable international opponent.
At the moment the card is still being put together though it clearly looks likely to be a very special day for Indonesian boxing fans who will be hoping to see the future of the countries boxing talent.
