The bout in question saw China's unbeaten and always entertaining IK Yang (18-0-0-1, 13) weigh in bang on the 140lb limit. Yang isn't just attempting to claim the #2 position but also make the first defense of his lightly regarded IBF Pan Pacific title, a title he won last year when he halted Fahsai Sakkreerin in Shanghai.
Although entertaining Yang is better known for his accomplishments at Lightweight rather than Light Welterweight and it was as a Lightweight that he claimed his first title, the Korean national title in 2012, scored his first break out win, claiming the WBO China Zone title, and claimed the WBO Asia Pacific title. In many ways this is his first test at 140lbs.
His opponent is Thailand's little known but world ranked and experienced Patomsuk Pathompothong (29-2-1, 18). The Thai was 139.6lbs on the scales and although a relative unknown is a capable fighter best known for his controversial loss to Takayuki Hosokawa in 2013, a bout that one judge appeared to have "pre-scored". Although unknown by many the Thai is capable of the upset and could make life very difficult for the much touted Yang.
