The participants knew what was at steak and they put it all on the line. Unfortunately for Japanese-Brazilian Cristiano Aoqui (10-4-2, 6) it was he who came up short in a split decision loss to the more experienced Valentine Hosokawa (20-4-3, 9).
The bout was competitive from the off with neither man really willing to risk losing.
Despite the competitive start it was Aoqui who appeared to take the early initiative before Hosokawa neutralised the younger man and had his own success. Neither man however was going to let the other get the upper hand for long and the bout ended with two rounds of the men fighting each other to a stand still.
Sadly for his effort only one judge had Aoqui winning, 76-75, whilst the other judges sided with the 34 year old Hosokawa by scores of 77-75 and 76-75.
The win for Hosokawa may well earn him a title fight in 2016 whilst Aoqui will be looking to rebuild in 2016, and will likely take a lot from this defeat, even if the result it's self wasn't what he would have wanted.
