Earlier today we were informed that OPBF Featherweight champion Hisashi Amagasa (27-4-2, 18) would be defending his title on October 15th against the experienced Koji Umetsu (22-14-3, 10).
Amagasa will go into this bout seeking his 3rd defence of the title that he took last year from Ryol Li Lee and although Umetsu isn't a great opponent he is certainly better than Maxsaisai Sithsaithong, the last man that Amagasa faced. What is interesting about this bout is that it'll be Amagasa's third defence of the year so he seems to be making up for lack of quality by fighting quantity instead whilst also maintaining his high world rankings.
As for Umetsu he's not a total no hoper though he will be a big under-dog. The 37 year old is a former Japanese Featherweight champion, however that was around 8 years ago and since then he he has fallen short every time he has faced someone of note, such as Takahiro Ao, Naoki Matsuda, Satoshi Hosono and Seiichi Okada.
In our eyes this will be Umetsu's final chance and if he loses he loses he's likely to retire. Amagasa should win though if he doesn't win impressively he will see people doubting his potential. Unfortunately for Amagasa Umetsu has also been tough to stop so we'd not be surprised if Amagasa was given a frustrating night at the office here.
For those wanting to watch this fight it will be held at the Korakuen Hall and televised on the "Guts Fighting" series.
