Earlier this year Japanese Light Welterweight champion Hiroki Okada (10-0, 8) had to cancel a scheduled defense following a hand injury, suffered in sparring with the tough Yoshitaka Kato. We are now glad to report that Okada has returned to the gym, though his training is relatively limited.
The hard hitting 25 year old is reportedly training with just his left hand as the injury, to the thumb on his right hand, is still not fully healed.
At the moment it's unclear when Okada will return to the ring, though we're expecting his return to come against the winner of the upcoming bout between Masanobu Nakazawa and Masayoshi Kotake, who fight for the interim title on September 5th.
Hopefully the injury will heal before the end of the year and won't compromise Okada's power too much, though of course hand injuries can cause fighters to be more conservative on their return to the ring.
