Former world title challenger Hirofumi Mukai (10-3-2, 1) bounced back from back-to-back disappointments with a solid decision victory over the always testing Marjohn Yap (19-11, 10) on Sunday afternoon.
Mukai, who was last seen being held to a draw by Myung Ho Lee, fought in a safety first manner fighting almost completely behind his southpaw jab. There was, as we know when Mukai fights, little sting on his shots though the victory will do his confidence the world of good, especially considering that less than a year ago he was hammered by Srisaket Sor Rungvisai.
For Yap, one of the best journeymen in Asia, this was a second successive loss in Japan following his defeat at the hands of Naoto Uebayashi. Despite the losses though he will almost certainly be welcomed back again with the knowledge that he will always give a fighter good rounds and will always come to win, something that can't be said of all journeymen.
