Maruta, who debuted on November 22nd when he defeated Filipino puncher Jason Canoy, seemed to impress the WBC's ranking committee who granted him a #16 ranking at Bantamweight.
The 18 year old may just have missed out on a top 15 place but the ranking is still very impressive for a teenager who has only just made his professional debut. The ranking is in fact above that of many notable fighters including former Japanese and OPBF champion Ryosuke Iwasa (#21), former 2-time world title challenger Ryo Akaho (#23), current OPBF champion Takahiro Yamamoto (#30) and former Japanese champion Kentaro Masuda (#32).
Whilst he's obviously not ready for a world title fight it's clear that his team are going to be fast tracking him, and we suspect his next opponent could be another highly ranked fighter, with the intention of pushing Maruta into the top 15, and not just with the WBC but all 4 major world bodies.
