Earlier today in Liverpool, England, we saw the press conference for this coming weekend's WBA Super Bantamweight title bout between Britain's unbeaten Scott Quigg (29-0-2, 22), the reigning champion, and Japanese challenger Hidenori Otake (22-1-3, 9).
At the press conference Quigg's promoter Eddie Hearn did state that Otake was going to be Quigg's toughest opponent so far and mentioned Otake's now 17 fight long unbeaten record though it did seem a bit like Hearn was doing little more than quoting the numbers as opposed to mentioning much about Otake as a fighter.
With the fight now just a few days away it seems that both men are ready for the fight but also respectful of each other and both seem to know that this will be a hard fighter. We sti suspect that Quigg's proven quality over 12 rounds, and his extra power, will be the difference between the two men however Otake's confidence does seem to be interesting given that he is a huge under-dog. He seemed confident through out the press conference and in the stare down where it appeared that he was taller than Quigg, something that we didn't actually expect.
As a side note one very interesting thing about the press conference is that Otake has now had his name spelled "Ohtake" the same as he does on his own blog, we suspect all future references will now refer to him with a "h" in his name.
