Japanese based Filipino Genesis Servania (29-0, 12) seems to have been on the verge of a world title fight for years, but has been over-looked repeatedly. Earlier today however it was revealed that his wait was finally over with the news that Servania would be getting his long awaited world title fight on September 22nd against WBO Featherweight champion Oscar Valdez (22-0, 19), as part of a Top Rank card on ESPN.
The bout will be Valdez's third title defense, following wins over Hiroshige Osawa and Miguel Marriaga, and will see him lookign to move towards facing some of the other top names at 126lbs. The unbeaten Mexican is a big puncher but also a man who has shown great skills, brilliant speed and the ability to box, bang or brawl, depending on the type of opponent he's facing. His ability, and amateur pedigree, has long seen him being ear marked as one of the next superstars of Mexican boxing but the 26 year old is currently lacking the big name wins that will help him establish his place as one of the top fights on planet.
Although unknown in the west Servania is a bit of a young veteran. He's 25 but has been a professional from more than 8 years and fought a number of notable fighters, with wins over the likes of Gerson Guerrero, Genaro Garcia, Angky Angkotta, Konosuke Tomiyama, Rafael Concepcion, Alexander Munoz and Jose Cabrera. Through his career he has claimed the WBC International Silver Super Bantamweight title, the WBO Inter-Continental Super Bantamweight title and the WBO Asia Pacific titles at Super Bantamweight and Featherweight. This is however, set to be a huge step up in class for the Kashimi gym fighter.
The bout will be the co-feature of a card which will also feature a WBO Super Middleweight title bout between Gilberto Ramirez (35-0, 24) and Jesse Hart (22-0, 18), in what looks like a brilliant match up it's self.
The news of this bout was originally broken by RingTV's Mike Coppinger in this article.
