Tomorrow many fight fans will e following the world title double header on TV Tokyo. Before either of the world title fights, fight fan will get a Japanese Super Flyweight title bout, as Ryuichi Funai (27-7, 19) [船井 龍一] defends his title against Takayuki Okumoto (18-7-3, 8) [奥本 貴之]. The bout will be Funai's first as achampion and will see Okumoto make his first challenge at domestic level.
Today the fighters both took part in their weight in and both made the limit for the bout.
The heavier of the two men was the champion, who was bang on 115lbs and looked in great shape whilst being notably taller than his challenger. He came in with a lot of confidence, and seemed to feel he had a point to prove, not just for himself but also former champion Kenta Nakagawa, who's a close friend of Funai's and the man Funai beat for the title earlier this year.
Okumoto was slightly the lighter man, coming in around 114.75lbs, and he too looked in good shape. He two was confident, and strangely seemed to state that he was clearly going home with the title, by KO or by decision. The view however is that he is the clear under-dog coming into this bout.
