Earlier today fans in Kumamoto saw local star Tatsuya Fukuhara (17-4-6, 6) [福原 辰弥] successfully defend the Japanese Minimumweight title and record his second defense of the title. Sadly however the bout left everyone feeling under-whelmed as he retained his belt with a technical draw against Shin Ono (19-7-4, 3) [小野 心], following the champion suffering a nasty cut in round 3 from a clash of heads.
The fight started well for the champion who took the first two rounds with his aggression but unfortunately as Ono changed tactics early in round 3 the heads of the two men collided with Fukuhara suffering a nasty cut on his forehead that caused the bout to be halted.
As the men hadn't gone beyond 4 rounds the bout was automatically ruled a technical draw. A result that leaves no one particularly happy, though does seem Fukuhara retain his title. Incidentally this was the 4th technical decision for Fukuhara, his third technical draw and the second to have happened within the first 4 rounds. For Fukuhara this was a 4th technical decision and his second technical draw.
