The two men have both fought in world title bouts before, and both have come up short. For Fahalan his loss to Katsunari Takayama was a controversial one for the IBF Minimumweight title whilst his loss last year to Milan Melindo for the intering Light Flyweight title was incredibly close. As for Alvarado his only losses have been in world title bouts to Kazuto Ioka and Juan Carlos Reveco, and he showed in both of those that he was a world class fighter.
The bout will take place in Nicaragua, giving Alvarado the home advantage, and will take place on October 14th, with the specific venue yet to be decided.
The winner will be the mandatory challenger for the winner of the September 16th bout between defending champion Milan Melindo (35-2, 13) and former WBA Minimumweight champion Hekkie Budler (31-2, 10), who meet in the Philippines for Melindo's first world title defense.
