It's fair to say that Korean boxing has still not recovered from the downturn it took almost a decade ago. Despite that the country does boast some very talented female fighters, several of which are world champions.
One of those world champions is the unbeaten Eun Hye Lee (8-0, 3) who is the current WBO female Light Flyweight champion, having won that title last September when she stopped Ploynapa Sakrungrueng in 3 rounds. Earlier today we were informed that Lee's first defense of that title will come on January 10th against unbeaten Australian Louisa "Bang Bang" Hawton (6-0, 3)*.
Hawton, who had targeted Momo Koseki last year, will be travelling to Korea for this bout which really does look intriguing on paper, given that both are unbeaten. It is a step up for the challenger, at least on paper, but it's fair to say that the champion has never faced anyone as talented as Hawton which leads us to believe that this could be an excellent bout.
For those interested this bout will be televised on KBS N Sports, live, and the card will feature two Korean title bouts, along with a Korean title eliminator.
*Hawton's team have informed us that she has a bout that is missing from her boxrec record.
