Earlier today saw an announcement regarding the first world title defense by IBF female Minimumweight champion Etsuko Tada (15-2-2, 4) [多田 悦子],who we now know will return to the ring on January 30th to face off with Chinese fighter Cai Zong Ju (8-1, 1) [蔡宗菊] in Macau.
Tada, who claimed the IBF title in late 2015, will be making her first defense following a frustrating 2016 in which she fought just ones, in a non-title bout. Although defending her IBF title for the first time she did previously make 10 defenses of the WBA title, before losing that belt to Anabel Ortiz in 2013, with Ortiz defeating Tada again in 2014 to give Tada both of her defeats.
During those defences of the WBA title Tada defeated the likes of Cho Rong Son, Ibeth Zamora Silva, Maria Salinas, Naoko Shibata and Yuko Kuroki and was long regarded as one of the top female fighters in the lower weights. She is however 35 years old now and thought to be on the slide.
Ju, a Chinese fighter who has emergd as a credible contender in recent years, will be fighting in her first title fight . She lost an early career bout to Nampetch Kwanjaisrikod but has bounced back well with wins against the likes of Gretchan Abaniel, Mari Ando and, most recently Samson Tor Buamas, whilst claiming a variety of regional titles.
Little is known about the rest of the card for this show but it does seem like Macau's boxing scene is set to take off again after a disappointing 2016, and this will be the second show in the special administrative Chinese region in as many days.
