In a few hours time Filipino fans will get the chance to see Donnie Nietes (35-1-4, 21) defend his WBO Light Flyweight title against Mecivan youngster Francisco Rodriguez Jr (17-2-1, 11). On paper this is one of the the very best bouts that could be made in the under-rated, and genuinely very interesting, Light Flyweight division. It's a bout that has us excited since it was first spoken about and it's a bout that really does get the juices flowing.
Whilst we like this bout we were surprised to see that UK bookies really didn't like it and have the bout as a real mismatch with the odds offered.
The bookies in question have priced Donaire, at best, at a relatively ridiculous 1/6. Those odds really do not reflect the fight we're expecting and yet they are the most accurate of the odds offered, with one bookie offering 1/12 on the champion to retain his title.
With such ridiculous odds on the champion it should come as no surprise that there is value in the challenger who is priced as a very attractive 13/2. Whilst understandably the under-dog we cannot fathom those odds on Rodriguez who looked fantastic at times last year.
As for the draw that's available at 20/1, not terrible value considering the fact we expect it to be competitive.
