Talented Filipino Donnie Nietes (32-1-4, 18) has began training for his up coming world title defense against Mexico's Moises Fuentes (19-1-1, 10).
Nietes, the current WBO Light Flyweight champion and former WBO Minimumweight champion, met with Fuentes in a controversial draw last year and a rematch has been ordered. Although no venue or date has yet been set for the rematch it is one that is highly anticipated and is one currently under-going negotiations.
At the moment Nietes is in the US at the House of Boxing in San Diego, he's then expected to visit several other gyms in the US and in Mexico to try and get top level sparring before negotiations over the Fuentes match are complete.
It's expected that when terms are agree the bout will be staged in either Mexico or the Philippines, though Singapore had earlier been mentioned as a possibility. In regards to the date of the bout we're expecting to be in May.
Since the men first fought Fuentes has been busy and highly impressive taking a decision over Gerardo Verde and stopping both Luis De La Rosa and Omar Salado. On the other hand Nietes has fought just once, stopping Sammy Gutierrez in 3 rounds.
