The Watanabe gym seems to be one of the hottest in apan right now, with a number of top fighters there, such as unified Light Flyweight king Ryoichi Taguchi (27-2-2, 12) [田口良一] and IBF Minmumweight champion Hiroto Kyoguchi (9-0, 7) [京口 紘人]
Today one of the gym's newest additions, Daisuke Sugita [杉田ダイスケ] was in action as he took part in a pro-test bout, which we've been told he shone in, as he shared the ring for 3 rounds with Hayato Kimura (26-10, 17) [木村 隼人所属] in a rare public pro-test bout.
Although perhaps an unknown outside of the hardcore Japanese amateur fight fans Sugita had a long and successful amateur career. Reportedly he won 110 amateur bouts, from 141, and scored 47 of those wins inside the distance. He fought in a number of established tournaments and shone in those, winning several.
It's likely he will make his debut later this year and be put on the fast track to success, backed by Watanabe and their wish to have another world champion and continue to develop the Watanabe gym name. Like several other top amateurs who have joined the Watanabe gym is looking to get a B class license for his debut.
