The promotional team behind the American born Japanese based Charlie Ota (24-1-1, 16) has announced that his next fight will be in Canada.
Ota is a former Japanese and OPBF Light Middleweight champion who currently holds world rankings with all 4 major title bodies. They are, currently, WBO #6, WBC #8 and IBF#9 rankings at Light Middleweight and an odd #12 ranking by the WBA at Welterweight.
The popular Japanese based fighter will be putting his 4 world rankings on the line as he battles highly touted American prospect Jermell Charlo (23-0, 11), on the under-card of Adonis Stevenson's (23-1, 20) WBC Light Heavyweight title defence against Andrzej Fonfara (25-2-0-1, 15).
Charlo, and twin brother Jermall, are being widely tipped as two of the most promising young American fighters, though this will be a major test for the much hyped youngster.
Jermell currently holds 3 world rankings himself, the WBO #4, IBF #5 and WBC #6 places all at Light Middleweight. In theory, with both men holding top 10 rankings with 3 organisations, this should put them to within a fight or two of a world title bout.
This is, of course, a huge opportunity for Ota though isn't an easy fight at all and he will need to be at the top of his game to beat the 23 year old Charlo who is being pushed hard by his promotional team as a future star and potential champion.
