Former Japanese amateur stand out Chaoz Minowa (3-0, 2) [チャオズ箕輪] claimed the biggest win of her professional career and claimed the OPBF female Flyweight title earlier today as she scored a clear, but hard fought, decision over Filipino Carleans Rivas (5-4-3).
From the opening rounds Minowa looked to fight her fight, applying pressure and aggression, forcing Rivas on to the back foot and trying to break the visitor. Rivas, much to her credit, refused to crumble to the Japanese fighter and fough back as best she could.
The stubborn resistence of the Filipino proved to be the great test that Minowa was needing and although the Japanese novice looked in trobule of losing she was left with some facial swelling from the shots that landed clean on her face. Whilst they weren't a major issue here they did show that Minowa needs to improve that easpect of her game.
Although tagged by a number of shots Minowa refused to ever back down and continued hunting a stoppage though had to settle for the unanimous decision, with cards of 79-73, twice, and a strangely close card of 77-75.
