Japan's 2-weight world champion Hozumi Hasegawa, still one of Japan's most popular fighters despite 2 set backs in recent bouts, is apparently eying up a chance to become a 3 weight world champion.
Currently campaigning at Bantamweight Hasegawa was one of a number of interested parties in last weekend's WBA Bantamweight title fighter between Britain's Scott Quigg and Cuban Yoandris Salinas.
With Quigg and Salinas fighting to a controversial draw Quigg retained the title he had been given on paper, when his interim title was upgraded to the full title, and now Hasegawa's attention seems to be focused on the Brit.
A Hasegawa/Quigg bout could be made in either Britain, where Hasegawa has apparently said he'd fight, or in Japan, dependent on money. One thing is for sure, this is a fight that would interest folk on both sides of the world and with Quigg now proving to be a popular fighter in the UK it could give Hasegawa a chance to expose himself to a whole new fan base.
