The highly established, albeit some what controversial, Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) held their 2014 awards ceremony this past Thursday and honoured various fighters who fought in the US in 2013.
For us the most notable award was the Fight of the Year award, which was given to the thrilling encounter between Ruslan Provodnikov and Timothy Bradley. The bout, one of the best fights in recent years, was with out a doubt the best fight on American soil and a worth winner.
A second notable award was given to Manny Pacquiao's legendary trainer Freddie Roach who has really dominated the "Trainer of the Year" award in recent years.
As well as those two awards their was also an appearance from Japanese star Ryota Murata who was photographed with American legend Mike Tyson who appears to be a much calmer man than the one who once bit off the ear of Evander Holyfield.

Right now it appears that Ruslan Provodnikov maybe a fighter that several top names don't want to get in the ring with. Although Timothy Bradley, Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao have been linked to "The Siberian Rocky" it's fair to say that none would willingly get in to the ring with him.
There is one man out there there who is wanting a fight with Provodnikov. Raymundo Beltran.
Beltran, who earlier this week saw a rematch with WBO Lightweight champion Ricky Burns all but denied to him due to the WBO forcing Burns to fight American Terence Crawford, has come out and called for a fight with WBO Light Welterweight champion Provodnikov.
Although Beltran sports a relative average record of 28-6-1 (17) he's proven to be a handful and was very cruelly denied of a victory against Burns in Glasgow back in September. As well as Burns, Beltran has been in with Sharif Bogere, Luis Ramos Jr, Henry Lundy and Ji Hoon Kim. Although his record from those fights is 2-2-1 some, including ourselves, feel he really won all 5 of them.
Provodnikov, who has been involved in several "Fight of the Year" type bouts recently burst on to the world scene with a losing effort to Timothy Bradley. Since than loss he has claimed his world title stopping Mike Alvarado in another thriller.
Although his record of 23-2 (16) may not totally show it Provodnikov is a dangerous and vicous puncher with a genuine toughness to him and a relentless spirit. It's going to take a special fighter to brave him and a brave one to fight him. If Beltran steps up to the plate then we'll give him the up most respect and we'd imagine with the fighter's styles that we'd have a great fight on our hands as well.
