With just 9 days until the big Teiken card on WOWOW we've had some bad news. WBA Lightweight champion Richar Abril (18-3-1, 8) has unfortunately injured his ankle. The Cuban, who was scheduled to defend his title against Teiken's very own Jorge Linares (34-3, 22) has, of course been forced to pull out of that contest.
We are still expecting Linares to be on the card, albeit it in a 10 round non-title affair against a lower level fighter, in what would appear to be a stay busy fight.
It appears that that the Abril/Linares will be re-arranged for another Teiken show. The dates that have penciled in as possibilities are December 7th and December 31st.
With a injured ankle being a relatively seriously problem we'll be shocked if the bout takes place on the December 7th card, so the 31st looks the most likely of the two options giving us another great fight to end the year with.
Teiken's November 10th Super show featuring Jorge Linares v Richar Abril and Shinsuke Yamanaka v Alberto Guevara has now seen the main undercard slots filled.
We had reported, a while back, that Roman Gonzalez and Takahiro Ao would be on the undercard. We now know who they will be fighting.
Ao, a former WBC champion at Feather and Super Featherweight, will be fighting tough Mexican Alan Herrera whilst Gonzalez will be fighting recent world title challenger Oscar Blanquet.
Herrera boasts an impressive record of 32-5 (21) though was defeated last time out. He's not fought at Ao's level before though is a naturally bigger man than the Japanese fighter and could well use that to his advantage.
The 28 year old Blanquet also brings over an impressive record reading 32-6-1 (23) though he has been beaten in his last 2 bouts and 2 of his last 3 contests. Japanese fans will of course remember Blanquet for his recent bout with Akira Yaegashi, though may not wish to remember the bout which was less exciting than we certainly expected.
Japanese promotional power house Teiken recently announed what could only be described as a super card for November 10th this year.
The show to be held at the 13,000 seat sumo hall "Ryōgoku Kokugikan" will feature Shinsuke Yamanaka defending his WBC Bantamweight title against former world title challenger Alberto Guevara and Jorge Linares challenging Richar Abril for the WBA Lightweight title.
Not only are we expecting those two world title fights but we've also seen the names of Roman Gonzalez and Takahiro Ao penciled in for the show, albeit in non-title bouts and against yet to be announced opponents.
It's fair to say that this card has the potential to easily sell out the 13,000 seats even with out much else of note on the card just due to the two excellent title fights.
For those wondering about Ryota Murata, he is very unlikely to be on this card though he is expected back in the ring in December however an opponent has yet to be named.
