The WBA Middleweight champion was recently called out by Australian Daniel Geale (29-2, 15), a former WBA and IBF champion in what would make for a very interesting Summer clash.
Although Geale did, apparently, turn down the February 1st date with Golovkin it would have been a case of money talks. The February fight didn't have HBO money behind it and was instead arranged for Monaco a place where Golovkin had apparently promised to fight.
With a summer date on HBO looking very likely it would have more money behind it and allow both fighters to collect a decent pay day for what is one of the more attractive looking Middleweight clashes out. It would also be in the US allowing for Golvokin's growing American fan base to get another chance to the destructive Kazakhstan fighter in action.
There maybe 1 issue with this possible fight. Former Geale opponent Felix Sturm (39-3-2, 18), the current IBF champion, has seemingly said he'd like a fight with either Geale or Golovkin. For Geale a fight with Sturm would be safer and possibly pay relatively well, even if it would in Germany and would see Geale going over old ground. For Golovkin a Sturm fight was one he was chasing some years back before Sturm became impossible to make a deal with. You can bet that if Sturm can be lured to the US Golovkin would love to have that fight ahead of one with Geale.
Saying that though it's unlikely Geale would want to go back to Germany to beat a man he has already out pointed and it's unlikely that Golovkin would travel to Germany for a Sturm fight rather than have a fight with Geale on US soil. Unless Sturm can be lured to the US we don't see him getting in the way of a possible Golovkin/Geale bout.
