The sources are reporting that the bout will now be part of the highly anticipated "Superfly 2" card, on February 24th at Inglewood, and will be one of the chief supporting bouts for a card headlined by a bout between WBC Super Flyweight champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (44-4-1, 40) [ศรีสะเกษ นครหลวงโปรโมชั่น] and his mandatory challenger Juan Francisco Estrada (36-2, 25).
For Nietes the bout will be his first defense of the title, which he won last year to become a 3-weight champion. Aged 35 he's riding an incredible 13 year unbeaten run which has seen him go 29-0-3 (14) including notable wins against fighters like Pornsawan Porpramook, Manuel Vargas, Mario Rodriguez, Jesus Silvestre, Moises Fuentes, Francisco Rodriguez Jr and Edgar Sosa. Despite the big run of results he has remained a relative unknown outside of the Philippines and has really not come close to the attentiuon or success of either Manny Pacquiao or Nonito Donaire, his fellow top Filipino fighters.
Revecco is a former WBA champion at both Light Flyweight and Flyweight, and has scored wins over the likes of Karim Guerfi, Ricardo Nunez, Masayuki Kuroda, Felix Alvarado and Yodmongkol Vor Saengthep. In recent years however he has suffered two losses to Kazuto Ioka and there are some questioning what the 34 year old from Mendoza has left in the tank, but he did look sharp last time out. Interestingly this would be his US debut.
It should be noted this bout was originally pencilled in for November last year, and then again for January this year, but it now looks like the February 24th date will be set in stone in the coming days, adding a 4th notable fight to a card that may well be the best of year in terms of depth and match ups. The winner would raise their profile, but given their ages, it may well be one last hoorah before a younger man guns after the winner, and the IBF title.
