Thankfully that silence was broken recently with the announcement of a notable card for October 3rd in ShanXi Province.
One of the two big talking points is the chief supporting bout which, will see Chinese hopeful Can Xu (12-2) taking on former world champion Nehomar Cermeno (26-6-1-1, 15) in a WBA Featherweight world title eliminator. Xu, who is on a run of 9 straight wins, is ranked #4 by the WBA and is clearly looking to earn a world title foght in the near future, seeing the WBA as the most attractive option. Cermeno, who won and defended the WBA Super Bantamweight title in China, is stepping up in weight here and will know that a win could open the door to one more major fight for a man who really has spent much of his career being over-looked and under-rated.
The main event of the card is the other major talking point and will see former Chinese world champion Xiong Zhao Zhong (26-7-1, 14) [熊朝忠] taking on unbeaten Thai prospect Petchmanee Kokietgym (18-0, 10) [เพชรมณี ก่อเกียรติยิม], in what is listed as a "WBA Mini Flyweight interim 2orld title bout", essentially a WBA "interim" Minimumweight title bout. For Zhong the bout will be his first in well over a year, and by the time of the fight he won't have scored a win in over 2 years. For the Thai, who is listed as Panya Pradabsri on the bout sheet, this will be his third bout of 2017. The Thai comes into the bout ranked #4 by the WBA and at 26 he is coming into his prime, and is almost a decde younger than his Chinese foe. Notably the winner of this will be in line for a shot at current WBA champion Knockout CP Freshmart (16-0, 7) [น็อคเอาท์ ซีพีเฟรชมาร์ท], potentially with that fight coming early next year.
