Filipino fight fans are in for a treat on June 7th as two local youngsters trade shots for the lightly regarded WBA Oceania Bantamweight title. Although the title isn't highly regarded it is a potential foot in the door to a world ranking and more for the winner.
The bout in question will see the once beaten Daryl Basadre (14-1-1, 10) battle against Kenny Demecillo (8-3-1, 5) in a really interesting match up.
Of the two men it's Basadre who is the most well known. He's previously claimed numerous other titles, include the WBC Youth World bantamweight title, which won't be on the line here. He is however best known internationally for trading blows with the fantastic Suriyan Sor Rungvisai in Thailand, which sadly resulted in Basadre's sole defeat. That bout with Suriyan is one of two bouts fought outside of the Philippines for the touted 22 year old.
As for Demecillo also 22, he's not yet fought at title level though he did, surprisingly, give the much more experienced Jetro Pabustan a really tough contest earlier this year. Although Demecillo came up short in that bout he certainly excelled himself and it's little wonder he's being given another decent opportunity. This is certainly biggest fight to date and a great opportunity to claim a regional title which could take his career forward in a big way.
