Earlier today fans in Sasayama saw Atsushi Kakutani (15-4-1, 8) return to the city of his birth and score a relatively easy win over Thailand's Dawut Manopkanchang (10-7-1, 3) before announce his plans for the future.
Kakutani, best known for his loss to Adrian Hernandez in a WBC Light Flyweight title fight, stopped Dawut in the 4th round of the bout as the class difference between the two men showed in very obvious ways. It was really a mismatch between a Thai body donor and a Japanese fighter who has eyes for titles.
Kakutani's eye for gold was part of his post fight announcement as he said he was hoping to fight for the OPBF title in December. We're assuming that would be the OPBF Light Flyweight title, currently held by Filipino slugger Jonathan Taconing.
Although nothing is yet set in stone we'd really like to see Kakutani Vs Taconing or Kakutani Vs Koki Eto, if Kakutani feels Flyweight is more suitable for him. Hopefully Kakutani and his team will get their wish following what was effectively a stay busy win here.
*Note boxrec list Dawut at 0-2 following this fight
