According to the recent WBO convention there is is hope that Filipino puncher Aston Palicte (21-2, 18) will face Oscar Cantu (14-0, 1) in a bout for a WBO regional title, with Palicte's team asking the WBO to allow a title to be on the line for the bout, which is pencilled in for December 17th in Las Vegas.
Although the bout isn't yet set in stone it does seem like it's the bout that Palicte's team are chasing and it seems like the winner, if their is a WBO title on the line, will likely get top 10 rankings with the IBF, WBC and WBO, opening up a variety of title options to chase in 2017.
A decision on this will likely be made in the coming weeks with an announcement coming soon afterwards. If the bout is made it'll be an intriguing one and see Palicte make his US debut against a talented and unbeaten fighter and it'll see Cantu take on his most notable opponent, and his first real puncher.
If the bout can't be made then Palicte will likely have a different opponent but will still be expected to fight on the card, in what will be his second bout since his controversial defeat in March to Junior Granados.
