On Wednesday Japanese fans will have the chance to see WBA “super” champion Takashi Uchiyama's (24-0-1, 20) [内山 高志] return to the ring to face off against the once beaten "interim” champion Jezreel Corrales (19-1-0-1, 7), from Panama.
Ahead of that bout the two men too part in their medical assessments with no serious issues being discovered with either man.
Whilst their was no medical issues their was still some noteworthy information to gather from the medical.
Notably the physical advantages boasted by Uchiyama, who is 4.5cm taller and has a reach advantage of more than 10cm. That physical advantage is likely to help Uchiyama negate a perceived speed advantage of Corrales who may struggle to find the range for his own jab, especially given that Uchiyama's jab is a very educated one.
Although Uchiyama is bigger in every measurement it is worth noting that Corrales is the significantly younger man, with a 12 year youth advantage on the champion That youth advantage does appear to be Corrales only real advantage. Some may suggest that the southpaw stance is also a positive for Corrales however Uchiyama has already recorded 4 world title defenses against southpaws, with his last 2 bouts coming against lefties.
