We've known for a while that IBF Flyweight champion Amnat Ruenroeng (15-0, 5) would next be defending his title against mandatory challenger John Riel Casimero (21-2, 13). What we didn't know was when or where, though the general view was that Jimmy Chaichotchuang, of Kiatkreerin, would be the man behind it's promotion.
Over the last 24 hours it seems that the story has developed and it's not listed on both the IBF's website and boxrec.com are being set for June 27th and will take place in Bangkok. It's not the biggest surprise but still seems to be something that the Thai media have yet to run with suggesting that may not yet be as set as some are thinking.
It's worth noting that tt the moment no specific venue in Bangkok has been named though we're expecting that to be announced sooner rather than later, with confirmation on the date. The fight being held in Thailand however is certainly no surprise as both teams had suggested that the bout was heading to the Land of Smiles.
For Casimero it will be his first fight in Thailand he has however he is a real road warrior and has already fought in Mexico, Panama, Argentina, South Africa and Nicaragua as well as his native Philippines. This will be his 8th fight away from the Philippines in his last 11 bouts and, surprisingly it will be the 4th time he has gone on the road in an attempt to claim a world title, or some variation of a world title. Despite being on the road Casimero is a confident fighter who has been in great form in recent years and he'll be confident that form will continue here.
As for Amnat this would be his just his 7th bout in the Thai capital and his first since he stopped Ricky Manufoe way back in June 2013 at the Bangkok University. Since then he has moved from the IBF Asia to a world crown and this will be his 4th defense following impressive results against Rocky Fuentes, to claim the title last year, Kazuto Ioka, in the first defense of the title, McWilliams Arroyo, in his first mandatory late last year, and, most famously, Zou Shiming earlier this year.
Although we are awaiting confirmation of the date and venue it does seem like it could well be accurate on both counts.
