Back in December Johnriel Casimero abandoned the Flyweight division and vacated the IBF title which left the IBF ordering a match up between 2-weight champion Donnie Nietes (39-1-4, 22) and rising Thai hopeful Eaktawan Mor Krungthepthonburi (22-3, 15). Since the IBF ordred the bout the two teams have been in talks and negotations and it now seems like that bout is almost set.
According to various Filipino sources the bout looks likely to take place on April 29th in Cebu City, with ALA stating that there was about a 90% chance that they would get control of the promotional rights for the contest.
At one point there speculatuion that the bout could end up in either Thailand or China but it seems like ALA have put their hand into their pockets and will be putting up the money to get Nietes home advantage as he looks to become a 3-weight champion and continue his brilliant legacy.
Whilst home advantage for Nietes will have been liked against anyone it is worth noting that Eaktawan hasn't fared particularly well on his travels, in fact he is 1-3 outside though he did win last time he was on the road out pointing Takayuki Okumoto in Osaka last year.
If ALA do indeed get the bout in April, as expected, the card will also feature Mark Magsayo (15-0, 11) and Jason Pagara (40-2, 25) in supporting bouts.
