Earlier today Japanese media had the chance to see former 2-weight world champion Akira Yaegashi (22-5, 12) take part in a media work out ahead of his December 29th bout with IBF Light Flyweight champion Javier Mendoza (24-2-1, 19).
The workout saw a determined Yaegashi working with trainer Koji Matsumoto.
The session saw Yaegashi hitting the pads and talking to the media, in fact it was the conversation with the media that revealed more than the actual work out.
It seems that Yaegashi is comfortable with the Light Flyweight limit for the bout, having apparently changed his training so that he could make weight easier. It also seems that Yaegashi has been scouting Mendoza and is aware of the type of fighter that the Mexican champion is.
Yaegashi knows that this is one final shot at becoming a 3-weight world champion and has clearly been focused on getting the win. He will however be the older, more worn fighter and may well be too old and too battled worn to over-come the younger, stronger and more aggressive Mendoza, who is hooping to record his 2nd defense.
