One of our trusted Japanese sources has reported a very interesting rumour to us regarding the immediate future of Akira Yaegashi (20-4, 10) and a very interesting contest that could well be a FOTY contender.
Yaegashi, a former WBA world champion at Minimumweight and a WBC champion at Flyweight, is thought to be in very advanced talks with once beaten Mexican fighter Pedro Guevara (23-1-1, 15) for a WBC Light Flyweight world title bout. The bout would give Yaegashi a fantastic chance to become a 3-weight world champion and would give fans an absolute barn burner between two highlight entertaining fighters. It was also give Yaegashi a chance to put his recent defeat, a stoppage loss to Roman Gonzalez, well and truly behind him.
At the moment the bout has not been confirmed though our source has indicated that the talks are almost complete and that if the two men agree terms in the next day or two the bout will be added to the recently announced Ohashi show for December 30th. That card will be headlined by former WBC Light Flyweight champion Naoya Inoue (7-0, 6) who has vacated the title ahead of an ambitious contest with WBO Super Flyweight champion Omar Andres Narvaez (43-1-2, 23).
If all goes as planned it would give Fuji TV a fantastic double header to end the year and give Ohashi gym a chance to end the year 3 world champions.
Another strong rumour for the card is that we may also see a Japanese Featherweight title bout between Satoshi Hosono (26-2-1, 20) and Rikiya Fukuhara (30-7-1, 22), another bout that would be great and very exciting.
