The exciting Akira Yaegashi (22-5, 12) knows he will be in a tough one on December 29th when he faces off against IBF Light Flyweight champion Javier Mendoza (24-2-1, 19). Today however he learned that that task was going to be harder than he expected.
The latest problem for Yaegashi was discovered at the medical which took place today and revealed that the all-action Japanese warrior would be giving up 13cm in reach to the champion, a huge issue if Mendoza decides to fight behind a jab.
Despite the disadvantage Yaegashi did look confident and will know that he has the experience, with more than twice as many rounds and more than 4 times as many world title fights, to make Mendoza pay for his mistakes. It is however a very tough ask for the popular Ohashi gym warrior, who is looking to become just the third Japanese man to claim 3 divisional world titles.
