On Tuesday a select number of people in Japan had the chance to see two Light Flyweight world champions share a ring for a rare all champion sparring session.
The session in question saw IBF champion Akira Yaegashi (23-5, 12) [八重樫東] share the ring with WBA champion Ryoichi Taguchi (23-2-1, 10) [田口良一] as both men prepare for upcoming title defenses.
Whilst it's not been made public, yet, when Yaegashi will fight next we're expecting to see him make the first defense of his title in late April or early May. Taguchi, we know, will be defending his title on April 28th. Sadly despite both men returning to the ring at the same sort of time, we know that they won't be facing off against each other. That means that their sparring session is as close to a unification bout that we'll get, at least for now.
Interestingly neither man has had their next challenger announced though we have seen both Rey Loreto and Randy Petalcorin being ruled out of the bouts with both of those men now having bouts lined up.
