Earlier today at the Ohashi gym the public and press were given a chance to see the work out of two fighters who will be in action on December 30th. They were unbeaten Super Flyweight Ryo Matsumoto (12-0, 10) and 2-weight world champion Akira Yaegashi (20-4, 10).
Yaegashi, who fights Pedro Guevara for the WBC Light Flyweight title, spent much of his session hitting the mitts with long term trainer Koji Matsumoto before talking about his preparation for the bout. That preparation has seen him focusing making the weight, which is 4lbs lighter than his previous bout. That weight was said to have only been fat and that he's confident that his power and speed will remain as they were when he was a Flyweight.
As for Matsumoto, who fights for the OPBF Super Flyweight title against Rusalee Samor, his session saw him hitting the mitts and shadow boxing. As for comments regarding his future it seems this will be a "test bout" to see how the youngster copes with the 12 round distance against a good quality foe. If success it's expected that Matsumoto will be moved into a world title fight next year.
