A story emerging from Japan late last week suggests that WBC Flyweight champion Akira Yaegashi (19-3, 9) will be returning to the ring for the 3rd defense of his title in April.
Although no opponent has yet been named the idea seems to be to fight in April to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Ohashi Gym, the stable that currently promoters Yaegashi.
As with the opponent, no venue has been set, though there is a small rumour that it'll be somewhere in Yokohama, where the gym is based. This would make sense considering the fact that the show would be an anniversary show and it could also mark Yaegashi's first fight in the city since his 2008 victory over Thongthailek Sor Tanapinyo.
If the show is to be held in the same venue as Yaegashi's fight with Thongthailek then the show would need a very strong undercard and this could possibly include Naoya Inoue, Takuma Inoue and Ryo Matsumoto who are all based there and all fight for the Ohashi Gym.
We should also note that Yaegashi returned to training just a few days ago and whilst details on his upcoming fight are slim it seems like he'll be taking on a serious challenger.
