Earlier this month the US media reported that Al Haymon's "PBC" series will feature an element of "Matrix" like cameras with NBC saying they would be testing "Ref Cams" among other ideas. To some fans this seemed like a brilliant idea, after all the ref gets the best seat in the house, gets to look into the yes of a fighter and gets to see the action up close and personal.
Some fans however questioned whether "Ref Cam" was actually a good idea with some evidence suggesting it's failed to be as good as it seems. In the past experiments with the technology, in professional wrestling, MMA and boxing, have been less than great with the views being provided not quite matching those that fans had hoped for.
Of course technology moves on, it improves and if fans and media are wanting to push the technology it will become better.
A recent device which has been given a real test is the Panasonic HX-A500 which was recently put through it's paces by former WBA Super Bantamweight world champion Akifumi Shimoda (28-4-2, 12).
We suggest anyone wanting to get a glimpse of the "ref cam" gives this video a watch and see if you change your mind.
